First Day of 2013...Great Day in 2013!

What a GREAT day back! We started so many new things, which was perfect for our new student. Alexis had a great day, and has already started to form bonds with people. When I asked her what her favorite part of her day today was, she said, "Math!" She also stated that she knew some of her classmates from when she went her in Kindergarten and from the Boys and Girls Club. Fantastic!! We welcome her to our class family!

We started off the day reviewing why Rusty does his show with us during our CC meeting each day. Before we watched the show today, I had the kiddos write a letter to Rusty explaining just that. We then created the class letter together that you see above. I know that he will love reading it when I send him a copy. Wow! These kids have learned a lot from him thus far, and we are only half way thru the year!

In Language Arts classes today we discussed space. I had the kids actually rotate and revolve around the sun (me). At the same time, I had other kids revolving around them as the moon. Man, it got pretty confusing halfway through, not to mention dizzy! This was a great way for the kids to get the meaning of our new vocabulary words. Tomorrow we will dive into the text. :0)

As you can see, I have deleted the spelling words for this week off of the blog. I decided to skip ahead to the next unit, which is a review. Therefore, there are no words this week to study. They are all a review. We will swing back and get Unit 17 next week when we have a full week. There will be NO words from that Unit on the Review Test this Friday.

In SS today, we started our Midwest Regional studies with our Geography challenge. We were able to infer that this region has a nickname of the Breadbasket of America. Ask your child why that is. If they can tell you, write the word MIDWEST in the planner for a $20 bonus tomorrow. The states and capitals are all listed off to the right. Please have your child make their flashcards tonight. We will make our school copy tomorrow in class. Study, study. Our test will be in a couple of weeks.

It was super fun to receive a picture of Ethan opening his Fallen Rock Shirt on Christmas!! I told the kids that it would be cool if we all wore our shirts this Friday. I know I love mine, as do my kids at home.

In music today, the kids discovered that they are going to be playing the recorder!!! They received their book today and learned the notes on the staff. They had some homework, but most of them finished it in class today. Part of their future music grade is having this book every Music class and having the work done and ready to grade that day!

Lastly, ALL kids need to bring in a stamped envelope tomorrow for a project we are doing. Many brought it today, but some are still missing. Please make sure your child has theirs for tomorrow. Thank you!

Have a wonderful night!
